Happy International Year of Natural Fibres!

Well I am a little late on finding out about this, but 2009 is International Year of Natural Fibres. You can tell it's international by that spelling of Fibres. This week's fibre is hemp, yay! I don't own any hemp articles so I'll have to find another way to celebrate. Hemp is great because it is very fast growing, requiring little to no pesticide and is super strong...and hemp milk is delicious and nutritious.

More fun facts...the first American flag was made of hemp and the U.S. Constitutuion was written on hemp paper. It was illegal for a time for American farmers to NOT grow hemp. It is so functional and can also be beautiful. I'm a big admirer of Julia Smith's line, lots of hemp silk blends and ethically manufactured. Well done.
